Position Summary

The AmeriCorps member will serve as the Violence Prevention Facilitator for Youth for

elementary, middle, and high school students in community-based after-school programs,

charter schools, and other child-focused venues, as well as the residential shelter, H.A.R.K., and

the One Love initiative. The member will conduct one-on-one assessments and education with

children on emotional regulation and behavioral issues that arise from witnessing or

experiencing domestic violence

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Engaging in outreach and promoting health education topics and healthcare services
Collaborating with pre-existing patients and partner organizations
Facilitating interventions and classes about health issue prevention and management and overall wellness
Planning and preparing classes
Keeping and organizing documentation and records

Characteristics of an Ideal Candidate

Self-starter, Organized, Community engagement/outreach skills, Group facilitation skills, Able to communicate effectively with individuals or diverse backgrounds and identities

Knowledge Required for the Position

Knowledge of AmeriCorps/Health Corps member requirements, Skill with Microsoft Office or other software for a variety of data processing operations involving a range of problem solving, record keeping, correspondence, and service tracking options.

Supervision

Member uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments following set procedures, independently, The supervisor assigns service activities, advises on changes in procedures, and is available for assistance when required

Review

The service activities are reviewed for accuracy through spot checks, through complaints from customers, and through observation of the member at service., The member independently plans and carries out the projects and selects the approaches and methods to be used in solving problems, Completed projects are reviewed very generally to determine that objectives have been met and are in compliance with policies and regulations.

Guidelines

Written and oral guides provide specific instructions for doing service, Detailed guidelines exist, including regulations and directives, handbooks, precedents, industry standards, and files of previous projects

Complexity

The facts or conditions of the service position are clear cut, predictable, and apply directly to the assignment

Special Considerations

Unusual service hours, involving evenings, weekends, or long shifts, Personal vehicle required, Criminal history check requirements beyond those required by National Health Corps
