Title: CAD Technician

Reports To: Director of Design

Position Purpose And Objectives

This position is responsible and accountable for the development, production and sign-off on all Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) layouts, detail drawings, construction drawings, sketches, elevations and diagrams ensuring all financial, programmatic and operating systems meet established targets. This position reports to the Director of Design and is a member of the Design team supporting the mission and goals of a “Best in Class” design program. The CAD Technician will be responsible for assisting in the design and planning of audio-visual systems, specifically the creation and completion of design documents and drawings that results in the successful installation, test and closeout of projects leading to customer satisfaction and efficient company operations.

This is a hybrid position with flexible work hours. Candidates are expected to work from the Franklinton, NC, office 1 – 2 days/week with occasional travel to client sites throughout the southeast region of the United States primarily, but not limited to, GA, SC, NC, and VA. As a national company, opportunities to work at job sites across the country are also available.

Duties And Responsibilities

Use computer-assisted design/drafting equipment and software (VectorWorks, Draftsight) to create/revise RCP and elevation drawings for AV infrastructure-related integration projects
Set-up sheet layouts, templates, and details necessary to support various engineering teams
Drafting finished designs from field/hand sketches and rough draft documents with minimal direction and oversight
Develop, incorporate and adapt design and drawing standards to company production processes
Develop engineering drawings for room layouts/elevations, infrastructure and custom plates
Generate as-built drawings to complete project closeout documentation
Conduct site surveys to collect accurate information and translate customer requirements into highly functional architectural designs for audio-visual systems
Cultivate a common purpose and teamwork among various company units and ensuring timely and effective communication with those units including Operations, Sales, Accounting, Procurement and Purchasing
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills And Qualifications

Successful candidates should have a certificate/diploma in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and one – three years work experience, including internships or co-ops, with an AV integration or architectural/construction firm creating drawings, elevations and documents and be familiar with design principles and practices. Additional experience required include:

Proven design and project planning skills and experience in creating designs and documentation for proposals detailing system narratives, drawings, schematics, elevations and close-out documentation
Successful criminal background check, motor vehicle review, physical and drug test prior to start
Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills to thrive in a team-oriented work environment
Computer proficiency and familiarity with specialized and standard office productivity software including VectorWorks, Draftsight, Google, Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to make important decisions under tight timelines and in a fast-paced environment
Must be able to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods of time
Proven problem-solving skills
Efficient time management skills
Valid driver’s license with less than two citations in last two years and reliable transportation

Preferred Skills And Experiences

Prior experience in the drafting and documentation of audiovisual systems
AV industry certifications such as AVIXA CTS and CTS-D is a plus but the ability to achieve within 12 months of start date is required
Comfortable with frequent and direct written communication
A desire to progress in job knowledge and qualifications
Friendly and approachable
A keen attention to detail and an ability to keep a cool head when placed in stressful situations
